In comparison to Book #1 in this series, I think The Black Rood built off that set-up and provided additional interesting glimpses into life in the Middle East in the 12th Century. Lawhead does active description really well (I have the mental imagery of a pig torture scene in my mind and it's probably going to haunt me for some Rating C/5.

This book is a continuation of the Iron Lance. I found this book The Black Rood) to be even better than the Iron Lance which is saying something because I enjoyed that tremendously.

Perhaps it is because you are more familiar with the characters or the storyline, I am not sure, but I can hardly wait for the third book, The Mystic Rose/5(20). The Black Rood the prayer-worn, blood-stained remnant of the True Cross had led the Crusaders to their greatest victory before it mysteriously disappeared.

The Rood and its power mean as much to the Celé Dé, the ancient faith, as to papal Christendom/5(33). This book is a continuation of the Iron Lance. I found this book The Black Rood) to be even better than the Iron Lance which is saying something because I enjoyed that tremendously.
